Language vs. Market: What's the Difference?

Language is what your pages are written in; market is which Amazon store your commission and price come from, so they are two separate settings.

These two words sound similar, but on your Bravery site they do very different jobs. Once you see the difference, a lot of things about your earnings and your product pages start to make sense. Here is the short version, in plain terms.

Language is the words on the page

Your language is simply what your pages are written in. It is the translation layer. When you add English, a shopper reads your reviews and buying guides in English. When you add German, the same pages appear in German. Adding a language does not change where you earn money or which price a shopper sees. It only changes the words.

Market is where you earn

Your market is the Amazon store your commission comes from. Each market has three things tied to it: the Amazon store (Amazon.com for US, Amazon.co.uk for UK, Amazon.de for Germany), your affiliate tag for that store, and the price shoppers see. A US market sends buyers to Amazon.com with your US tag and shows US prices. A UK market does the same with Amazon.co.uk.

  • Language = the translation your pages appear in (words only).
  • Market = the Amazon store, the affiliate tag, and the price (where the money is).
  • You can have more languages than markets, or the reverse. They are independent.
A common mix-up: adding German as a language does NOT add the German Amazon store. To earn from Amazon.de you need the German market, which is only available on the Pro plan. A German-language page can still point to the US or UK store.

How this maps to your plan

Each plan gives you a set number of languages and a set list of markets:

  • Starter: 1 language, US market only (Amazon.com).
  • Plus: 2 languages, US and UK markets (Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk).
  • Pro: 4 languages, US, UK, and DE markets (all three stores).
Think of it this way: language grows your audience, market grows where you can collect commission. If you want commission from a new Amazon store, you need that market, not just its language.

Frequently asked questions

If I add a language, do I start earning from that country's Amazon?

No. A language only translates the words on your pages. Commission comes from a market, which is a separate setting and depends on your plan.

Can a German-language page send shoppers to Amazon.com?

Yes. Language and market are independent, so a page written in German can still point to the US store with your US tag if that is the market you have.
